Takeaways from Tinder
What works: Short, slick, humorous bios. Emojis are a bonus
What doesn’t work: Huge profiles that go into great detail about why you’re here and what you want from love
I always like to say that Tinder is the wild west of dating apps and the best way to succeed is to be slicker and ‘quicker on the draw’ than everyone else. Your profile needs to be short but it also needs to be compelling and snappy. It needs some sort of hook that guides peoples’ eyes to you, too.
The two girls and Tom have really got it nailed by including the fact that they’re new to the area. This is always a good hook to add to your profile because it’s an instant invitation for someone to say “I’ll be your tourist guide!”
They also manage to cram a good number of interests/passions into their very short bios.
And notice how adventurous Niamh shows us she is. She’s only used a few characters, yet we already know she’s traveled extensively and has a pretty varied heritage.
What each person is doing is creating a ‘dog whistle’ type profile that’s meant to appeal to certain people on Tinder. We know the two girls have a sense of adventure, while the two men seem more focused on their careers. Tom has his own house so he is obviously doing well in life, while Brendan has relocated for his new job. Work and success are important to these two men.
What they’re doing is showing and not telling. And this is super important on Tinder. In a few characters, and via a very slick, easy-to-read profile, you have to show us what you’re into without going into detail. Only then will you attract the people you want to hear from.

Dating Profile Examples for OkCupid
Jem, 28
- I'mopen to friendship, lovers, partners.
- I’m looking for depth and meaningful connection, but prefer to let it grow slowly.
I can be quite serious about the things I’m into, but also have a lively and quirky personality. I like getting to know new people. I like to ask questions about books, films, interpersonal relationship experiences, and experiences that can be termed ‘spiritual’ or personally insightful.
Emily, 24
“I’m here to find a potential long term partner.
I’m socially awkward most of the time, I believe I’m an introvert or maybe people are just c*nts.
I have different comfort zones around different people so I’m not always as open with some people as I am with others. I attempt to be funny with sarcasm, & innuendos are my thing.”
Hannah, 30
“An introvert, creative and perhaps slight nerd that enjoys the simple things like rainy Sunday afternoons with a batch of freshly baked double chocolate somethings, a good book and nowhere to be.”
What I’m doing with my life?
“Running a small creative business in the countryside.”
James, 27
“Softhearted, neurodiverse and never outgrew my ego phase.
I’m a creative in a risky industry and I’m trying to figure out how or whether that can be reconciled with my career.
I value the comfort of routine but often year for spontaneity and adventure. I want to travel, live and love widely but also seek deep understanding and familiarity.”

Takeaways from OkCupid
What works: In-depth, thoughtful and revealing profiles that are interesting, quirky and charming
What doesn’t work: One or two lines or a totally blank profile
These examples are all pretty heavy going but I absolutely love them! It’s almost as though we just walked into the middle of a therapy session.
And OK Cupid allows you to do that. It encourages you to open up a bit, make yourself vulnerable immediately and say what’s really on your mind.

Emily, for example, has laid her cards fully on the table straight off the bat. She is here to find a long term partner – no messing around. This is something you definitely wouldn’t put on Tinder, but it’s perfectly fine on OK Cupid.
It’s also perfectly okay to admit – like Jem did – that you’re not really sure what you’re looking for. You’re open to this, that and even that.
And this is really what OkCupid is about – acceptance of differences, of nuances and of depth and soul. To truly succeed here it helps to go that extra distance.
That said, it’s also – of course – a bonus to be funny now and then, too. You don’t always have to be so serious but you should be specific and interesting. Don’t be vague.
Dating Profile Examples For Match.com
Tina, 26
“I am a down to earth girl looking for someone who is interested in a long-term relationship, who can be my best friend and with whom I can share everything with.
In terms of qualities I am looking for someone who is kind, open-minded, a good listener, ambitious, intelligent and cultured.”
Jose, 25
“I would describe myself as a lover of travel as I believe the further you travel, the better it gets. I work to fund my lifestyle. I enjoy eating out as I am a real restaurant buff. I’m also a huge animal lover and have three dogs. I love going to the cinema and try to go as often as I can. I enjoy life and live it to the fullest.”
ALS, 30
“Marketing manager. Perpetually clumsy.
Fondness for intelligent conversation, documentaries, good food, people and Marlborough Sauvignon.
Appreciation for old fashioned values and modern taste.
No children. Ideally you’ll be the same.”
Curtis, 26
“Recently moved from London to see what Manchester has to offer.
Enjoys a good book, hiking, cats, plants and bao buns.
A lack of curiosity for the world is a hard limit.
I’m on a mission to read one book from every country so any recommendations for Vanuatu would be much appreciated (as would any recommendation) ):”
Takeaways from Match.com
What works: Super friendly, long-but-not-too-long profiles that reveal what you’re looking for
What doesn’t work: Generic sentences full of cliches
Match is like a slightly more laidback version of OK Cupid. You don’t want to bare your soul just yet, but you want to write enough so as to make a good impression on people who are viewing your profile.
Remember, people pay to send messages on Match, so you need to make sure that you beef up your bio with something that makes you unique and interesting, and which also ensures you target the right people.
No one is going to pay good money just to message someone who’s written “Hey” in their profile.
ALS has got it nailed with her slick style that’s like a more grown-up, polished Tinder bio. But as you can see from each profile, it’s all about outlining your interests and what you’re looking for.
As long as you put in a bit of effort on Match, you will get results.

Sarah
“The hallmark of a good relationship is trust, loyalty, love and respect.”
James
“I want someone who wants to travel, binge watch the latest great show obsession, stay in on a Friday night just because, and will challenge those pesky negative thoughts.”
Shannon
“I unwind by binging on Netflix.”
Daniel
“Pet peeves are loud chewing, bad grammar.”
Takeaways from Hinge
What works: Short, snappy answers to questions
What doesn’t work: Lack of information or effort
You’d think Hinge profiles were easier to nail than the others because the app gives you a series of prompts to help you out. However, you still have to make sure that your answers are unique to you so that your profile stands out from everyone else.
After all, you’re all answering the same questions. This makes Hinge a bit tricky.
To be fair, though, it’s all about honesty. You need to keep things real and answer honestly, but it doesn’t hurt if you can spice things up with a bit of wit and charm.
And if you’re a naturally funny person who always answers a question with an amusing response in real life, you’ll have a field day on Hinge.

Best Thing To Write In Dating Site Sample Papers
What works: Short, cute, witty
What doesn’t work: Negativity and pics that don’t match up with the bios
Best Thing To Write In Dating Site Samples
Bumble is kinda like Tinder – except the profiles are even shorter and even sweeter.
Finding that balance between short and sweet is tricky when many of the best bios are very, very short.
Serge has it nailed. He jokingly tells us he’s an “aspiring adult,” but then reminds us that he’s also a lovely person. His smiley pic, meanwhile, complements his bio. He’s used just four words and yet he’s cracked the Bumble code!
It’s the same with Scott. His pic matches up with his bio. We now know he’s warm, playful and all about life. He’s a catch.
Isla, meanwhile, is being playful, too. She’s laughing at herself while putting it out there that what she actually wants is a man who can get her off her phone and out on a date where she can have a good time.
